Start with the target, not the laser name

Pigment, melasma, post-acne marks, tattoo pigment, atrophic scars, and surface texture are different targets. A diagnosis and scar assessment should come before choosing Pico or fractional CO₂.

They create tissue effects differently

Picosecond systems deliver very short pulses and may use fractional optics for selected texture or scar plans. Fractional CO₂ creates microscopic columns of ablative thermal injury. Wavelength, handpiece, settings, and treatment density change the actual procedure.

Recovery and pigmentation risk need individual planning

A randomized split-face study in Asian patients with atrophic acne scars found improvement with both fractional picosecond and fractional CO₂ treatments; mild post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation occurred on some CO₂-treated sides in that small study. One trial does not settle every device, setting, skin tone, or indication.

Ask what success will be measured against

Confirm the diagnosed concern, exact device and mode, why it fits your skin and scar type, expected redness or peeling, sun-care plan, post-inflammatory pigmentation precautions, session interval, and the point at which photographs will be reviewed.
